National Review Online posted a symposium this morning on the "proper response" to such a massacre. The suggestions are patronisingly politically correct. Robert Destro, a supposedly-Catholic law professor at an allegedly-Catholic university, prostrates himself to the Mohammedans with such feeling it would make any dhimmi proud:
These murders are like “honor killings”; their perpetrators seek to justify their deeds as a defense of the Prophet. The truth, however, is that the Prophet is, we pray, with God and needs no human “defense.” These are murderers who must be hunted down, tried, and punished.Note immediately the choice of the title "the Prophet" for Mahomet. The second sentence is particularly disturbing. Does Mr. Destro really pray that Mahomet, that evil barbarian who unleashed a demonic plague upon the world which to this day is still responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent Christians, is in heaven with God and Christ the King? The rest of Mr. Destro's essay is literally a plea to ignore the religion of the attackers. The "correct approach," Mr. Destro lectures us, "is to ask like-minded Muslims to join us in a highly visible, well-funded, international effort to arrest, try, and punish these murderers." It is the typical "those murderers aren't real Muslims" response. Unfortunately for Mr. Destro, not to mention the rest of us, "fake" Muslims apparently account for well over half of all Mohammedans worldwide.
Mr. Destro's suggested response is surely the most ridiculous, but while some in NRO's symposium come close to naming the evil at hand, not one comes out and actually says it is Islam. Instead it is "jihadism" or "radical Islamism" (as opposed to moderate Islamism?) that is the culprit, and it is ultimately up the the "Muslim community" to clean its own house. It should, however, be clear as day to anyone who has been paying attention that this Muslim community is both unwilling to and incapable of doing this.
There is something uniquely nauseating about seeing commentators and folks online declare #JeSuisCharlie and then immediately make excuses for the ideology that motivated the murderers of the Charlie Hedbo employees in the first place, or even worse suggest that those employees somehow brought their fate upon themselves.
How many more of these attacks need to happen before we can stop the charade? How many more innocent people need to die? How much more beheading on the streets, how many more English and Swedish girls raped by Mohammedan immigrants before the powers that be stop portraying PEGIDA as the baddies? Of course there are Mohammedans in the West who are peaceful, law abiding people, but the Mohammedan community as a whole represents a very real existential threat to Occidental civilization. That much has been clear since Tariq ibn Ziyad landed at Gibraltar in 711.
